With a key starter out of the lineup, Roadrunner's volleyball coach Rebecca Pierson decided to juggle her lineup as the team approached the start of their Region XIX match against Bergen Community College on Saturday.
The remaining starters simply moved around as needed -- as it turned out, the result was exactly what Pierson hoped for, a 3-0 triumph for the Runners' fourth straight win.
The victory boosted RCSJ's overall record to 7-5 and to 5-1 in the conference. Bergen dropped to 1-4 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
"We still made some mental mistakes, but that might have been due to players being out of position," said Pierson. "We started strong and we managed to hold on."
The Runners swept all three sets by scores of 25-14, 25-17 and 25-20.
"Everyone was a little out of position today, but we never gave up," said Burritcher, a freshman. "We're a close- knit team and we're playing with a lot of confidence."
Next up for the Runners is an away match at Brookdale Commiunity College on October 1 in a 7:00 pm start.
The Roadrunner Women's Volleyball team looks to continue their recent success when they host Bergen Community College Saturday afternoon in a key Region XIX and GSAC match.
Coach Rebecca Person's team is coming off consecutive wins over Raritan Valley, Manor College and Middlesex to raise their season record to a respectable 6-5 overall.
The Runners now have a full roster on display. Playing particularly well have been setter Lina Russo (Cherry Hill); setter Taylor Caldas (Gloucester Catholic); libero Katie Burritcher (Our Lady of Mercy); and setter Lauren Coffey (Williamstown).
Game time tonight begins at 12:00 noon. See details below.
