Sabato Has Hot Bat, Sparks Roadrunners' Baseball  to Sweep of Bergen CC

Thanks to one red-hot bat, the Roadrunner Baseball team has continued their 2022 season in the winning style they are accustomed to.

Centerfielder Eric Sabato provided the offernsive fireworks -- and the No. 1 nationally ranked Runners responded by sweeping visiting Bergen Community College 10-2 and 9-8 Saturday in a crucial GSAC and Region 19 series.

RCSJ Gloucester extended their win streak to seven games while improving their overall season record to an impressive 28-4 mark. They also swept the three-game home and homer series vs. the Bulldogs.

In Game 1, Sabato delievered an RBI single to put the Runners out in front for good, and then added another RBI to spark the win. In Game 2, the Bishop Eustace grad produced the game-winning walk-off hit. finishing with four hits and three RBIs, lifting RCSJ to a dramatic come-from-behind triumph and the series sweep!! The Runners fell behind 8-3 in the fifth inning before staging the big comeback.

But Sabato was not the only Runner who performed well in the clutch. In Game 1, southpaw pitcher Joe Marino scattered four hits over seven innings to earn the win. Catcher Mitch Balint knocked in three runs while DH John Cristino collected two RBIs.

In Game 2, sophomore Jose Correa picked up two hits and two RBIs to help with the comeback.

Next up for Coach Rob Valli's Runners will be a home game vs. The ASA Brooklyn Avengers Monday afternoon in a 3:30 pm start.
