The men's and women's cross country teams had outstanding performances at the Region 19 Championships, where the Roadrunners came home with 3 All-Region performers and an amazing three-peat of the women's team title. The race also served as the Garden State Athletic Conference championships, with the Roadrunners earning 4 All-GSAC performances as well.
The women's team was led by Laney Vecchio, who bravely took the lead right from the gun on a challenging hilly course. Laney was able to hold onto her lead and build upon it, to become the Region 19 Individual Champion with a time of 20:05. Laney is the first Roadrunner to win the individual title since the legendary Catherine Dougherty won in 2013. Next across the line for the ladies was Kayla Ayars placing 5th to also earn All-Region honors. Next came a mini flock of Roadrunners with Gabby Szwed in 14th place and Amelia Helkowski in 15th. Wrapping up the scoring and sealing the win for the Roadrunners was Georgia Lorenzetti in 23rd. The team exceeded their expectations and all ran amazing times despite the very tough course.
The men's team had 1 All-Region award winners and 2 All-GSAC award winners en-route to a 3rd place team finish. Leading the flock for the Roadrunners was freshman Ryne Handley with his All-Region/All-GSAC 6th place finish. Next up was the duo of sophomores Sean Gallo in 13th and Kevin Profico in 15th. The rest of the RCSJ Roadrunners battled the hills with fierceness as Gary Schwegel placed 21st, Alexis Huerta placed 29th, and Dan Mumbower placed 31st to wrap up the regular season of racing.
