The men’s and women’s cross country teams took a long trek to Long Island, NY to face some of our New York competition for the first time, as well as see a challenging course. The course at Sunken Meadow State park is one of the most famous in all of NY, and the Roadrunners were able to meet the challenge with ease.
The women’s team was led by Kayla Ayars with a huge late race surge to secure an award for finishing in the top 25 of the race with her 24th place finish. Amelia Helkowski was the remaining Lady Roadrunner who flew over the hills of the course and set a personal best for the season.
The men’s team had 2 award winners in the top 25 of the race and dominated the other JUCO competition with a 6th place overall finish in the 25 team field. Leading the flock for the Roadrunners was Kevin Profico with a 15th place finish in 30:09. Next up was Ryne Handley in 19th place to secure the final award winning place for the Roadrunners. The next 2 RCSJ Roadrunners worked in a pair and kept each other in sight the whole race, with Sean Gallo and Gary Schwegel taking 30th and 33rd respectively. Next up was Dan Mumbower in 87th to round up a great trip to NY.
Next up for both teams is the Region 19 Championships on Sunday at Lancaster County Park in Lancaster, PA. Both teams are primed and ready to attempt a repeat sweep of the Region Championships they achieved the last two seasons.
