The men's and women's cross country teams once again traveled across the river to PA for the DeSales Invitational hosted by DeSales University. RCSJ was the only Junior College in attendance and we did well against our NCAA competition. The course offered a mix of terrain and some challenging hills. Despite the challenging course, almost all of the Roadrunners set personal bests for the season, a good indication of their great preparation for the championship meets ahead.
The women's team was led by Kayla Ayars with the highest finish of the day in 41st place. Next was Gabby Szwed finishing in 66th with a time faster than her time on this course last year. The rest of the ladies had prior commitments and injuries this week.
The men's team was also short staffed, but those who did show up were rewarded with outstanding times on a challenging course. Kevin Profico has continued his leadership with an impressive season best of 29:15 to place 51st. Next was a duo of Ryne Handley and Sean Gallo who placed 70th and 75th respectively. The next group of Roadrunners were Gary Schwegel (82nd) and Alexis Heurta (106th) to also lead the team to a 6th place finish in the 8 team NCAA field.
Next up for both teams is the St. Joseph's Invitational in Long Island, NY to give the RCSJ teams a chance to see more of their New York competition before post-season championship races.
