The men’s and women’s cross country teams traveled to the twisting hills of Cairn University this past weekend for the Highlander Invitational. The course was the hilliest of the year so far for the Roadrunners and they handled the challenge well.
The women’s team was led by Kayla Ayars making a triumphant finish after a hard fall on the course. She led all the Roadrunners with a 30th place finish. Next up for the flock was Gabby Szwed finishing in 52nd. Wrapping up the race after a challenging final hill was Amelia Helkowski finishing in 66th.
The men’s team was led by a trio of Roadrunners pushing each other throughout the race. Pacing the field was Kevin Profico finishing in 25th, with Ryne Handley and Sebastian Koehn finishing in 28th and 31st respectively. Next were Sean Gallo and Gary Schwegel finishing in 38th and 58th. Rounding out the scoring, and finishing their first 8k’s for the team were Alexis Huerta and Dan Mumbower crossing the finish line in 79th and 91st. The team placed 5th out of 21 teams in the meet.
Next up for both teams is the DeSales Invitational hosted by DeSales University.
