Just like their previous games, the Roadrunner Men's Basketball team fell into an early and deep hole. But this time they managed to rally, and ultimately they pulled away with an 87-70 triumph over visiting Luzerne County Community College Saturday for their second win of the 2025-26 season.
The Runners quickly found themselves in a 17-3 deficit against the Trailblazers before settling down and executing their game plan. Guard Ace Lassiter led four players in double figure with 16 points, including a key jumper to give RCSJ its first lead late in the first half.
Sydney Maynard III came off the bench to contribute support on both the offensive and defensive sides to help the Runners into a 38-34 halftime lead. From there Lassiter, Dasir Williams-Bey and Aiden Cranmer sparked the second half offense, allowing the home team to outscore Luzerne by a 49-36 margin to secure the win.
The Runners, who lost to Union at home earlier in the week, also fell far behind in their first win over Sussex, but raced back to take a halftime lead and then finished it with a strong second half.
"It seems like this has been our pattern, but we talked about this as a team before the game -- and we all agreed that we need to start faster." said Byrd. "Luckily Sydney (Maynard) gave us some strong minutes off the bench to settle us down -- and Ace (Lassiter) got the offense going. Now, we need to figure out how to avoid these slow starts because good teams within our conference won't be letting us back into these games."
The Runners will face another challenge next week when they host Ocean County College om Nov. 20th in a 7 pm start.
