Weekend Wrap: Booras Leads Sweep of Sussex County, Lesher Stars vs. Bergen

After being honored along with several teammates for earning top GPA's on RCGC's softball team, shortstop Miranda Booras and teammate Jackie Lesher proved Saturday why they are two of Region XIX's premier performers on the field as well.

Booras, a former Delsea standout, who was honored on National Student Athlete Day on Friday, returned to the field the following day, collecting four hits and six RBI's to lead a sweep of host Sussex Community College. Lesher and teammate Mackenzie Ponto led the charge in a doubleheader sweep Sunday over Bergen by scores of 8-0 and 14-1.

Against, Sussex Saturday, the Runners swept a twinbill by scores of 4-0 and 18-2, and Booras played a major role offensively.

In game 1, Booras slammed a two-run double to spark a three-run seventh inning to lift her team to victory. The Runners entered the frame with a 1-0 lead.

Winning pitcher Jackie Lesher went the distance, scattering seven hits and striking out seven to raise her record to 7-4.

In Game 2, Booras picked up three hits and drove in four runs to lead the easy triumph. There were other hitting stars as well, including second baseman Christina Wilgus, who had produced three RBIs; and pitcher Gia Cerminaro, catcher Macenzie Long, and rightfielder Mackenzie Ponto, who had two RBIs apiece.

Cerminaro proved solid once again on the mound, allowing four hits and two runs in five innings.

In the sweep of Bergen, Lesher earned her ninth win of the season on the mound in an 8-0 Game 1 win. She also finished the twin bill with four hits and two RBIs. In Game 2, Ponto was the winning pitcher in a 14-1 rout. She also collected three hits and scored a run.
